Why do we hold conventions?
  • Some years, we hold conventions to vote on local, district, and state GOP officers and committee members. We also vote on resolutions to let the Republican officials know where the rank-and-file stand on important issues. We will do this in 2021.
  • Other years, including 2020, the only work we do—the real work of the party—is to choose delegates/alternates to the National Convention. The delegates to the National Convention will vote on the Republican candidate for US President for 2020. Their votes were based on what Georgia Republicans voted on in the primary held in March. The rest of this flyer will focus on the purpose of the convention cycle.

Convention Cycle
  1. Precinct Caucus
    • Elect delegates/alternates to the county convention. Only those delegates elected by the precincts may vote in the county convention.
  2. County Convention
    • Elect delegates/alternates to the district and state conventions, only those that go through the nominating process may be considered.
  3. District Conventions
    • Elect officers every 2 years.
    • Conduct 10th district business including voting on resolutions.
  4. State Convention
    • Elect state party officers every 2 years.
    • Conduct state party business including voting on resolutions.

Who can be a delegate? Anyone registered to vote by February 24, 2021 in the precinct/district/state in which the convention is held

Who should be a delegate? The best delegates/alternates pool should come from those who attend GOP meetings regularly and are members of the local GOP.  The process requires that your political resume be submitted to the Nominating Committee to be eligible.

When and where will the conventions be held? TBD

How many Delegates do we get at Conventions?
The number of delegates/alternates each precinct, county, district and state receive is based on the number of people who voted Republican in the last Presidential election.

How much does it cost to attend a convention?
  • Precinct Caucus: $0
  • County Convention: $0
  • District Convention: Fee determined by District Committee
  • State Convention: Depends on what you attend: Saturday only: just convention fees. If you attend all of the activities (hotels, parties, dinner, breakfast, etc.) then it may be several hundred dollars.
